USA Track & Field has filed a lawsuit against former board chair Mike Conley, alleging that he breached his fiduciary duty to the organization in regards to the matter involving former board member Jim Estes and his role in the 2024 Olympic Trials Marathon bids.
Estes is suing USATF for defamation, the litigation filed by USATF against Conley is a third-party complaint in the Estes lawsuit.
USATF also alleges that Conley has failed to turn over documents they need to defend themselves in the Estes case.
In the complaint, USATF makes a series of allegations that Conley was inappropriately feeding information to Estes during an internal investigation of Estes’s role in the Chattanooga Olympic Trials bid.
USATF’s lawsuit against Conley is not the first time they have sued their own volunteers. In 2016 USATF sued most of their Youth Executive Committee regarding a dispute over registration systems. The litigation was ultimately settled and cost USATF a significant amount of money.
USATF has also filed a counterclaim against Jim Estes.
